Iran Urges Emergency OIC Meeting Over Gaza Humanitarian Crisis Amidst Threat of Israeli Invasion

Iran has urgently called for an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers, expressing grave concern over the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, particularly in Rafah, where an imminent Israeli invasion looms.

In a phone conversation with OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stressed the need for decisive action by Muslim countries against the recent aggression by the Zionist regime.

Amid reports of Israel preparing for a ground invasion of Rafah, Amir-Abdollahian condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks, which have resulted in the loss of innocent lives, particularly women and children.

Emphasizing the urgency of international intervention, especially by the OIC, Amir-Abdollahian highlighted the critical need for humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, and pharmaceuticals, in northern Gaza.

The OIC Secretary-General expressed solidarity with Iran's proposal for an emergency meeting and pledged to consult with member countries on the matter.

As hundreds of thousands seek shelter in Rafah, neighboring countries, including Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, have warned against a ground onslaught, stressing the catastrophic consequences for civilians trapped in the city.

Despite international concerns, Israel has escalated its attacks on southern Gaza, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushing for a "powerful" invasion of Rafah.

Reports suggest that the US has given Israel tacit approval for civilian casualties in Rafah, raising questions about accountability and consequences for the ongoing violence in Gaza.
